Coaching for Families Affected by Psychosis
Family Resources are one of two key factors in how well a person recovers from psychosis.
What supports recovery?
Coaching for Families Affected by Psychosis, LLC, provides psychoeducation and detailed approaches to help family and friends leverage their resources to allow the person to recover to the fullest extent possible. The coaching guides the family to connect to the rational core of the person within the delusional framework, develop a relationship of trust, and work with the person to stabilize, accept treatment, and recover to the fullest extent possible.
“Our family's experience with Milt Greek has been transformational. Milt has guided us, the parents of a schizophrenic son, to relate to his personal experience ‘from the inside.’ We no longer operate with a contest of wills, trying to impose our views, but rather from a place of partnering and hopefully, mutual understanding.”- parents of person stable and accepting of treatment for over two years after a decade of cycling in and out of psychosis, hospitalizations, and incarcerations.
"We were fortunate to come to know Milt, who mentored us along a journey of recovery along with our son’s. Milt gave us insight in a way few people can into some of our son’s thought processes. With his support and guidance we came to understand the value of certain responses to our son’s delusions as well as the importance of self care and family care. I am so pleased Milt is offering his coaching to other families. It has made a big difference in our lives." -Mother of man with schizophrenia who enjoys a successful career, marriage, and home after overcoming his psychosis..
This video link to the New York Times "Lives Restored" series allows Milt Greek to explain in his own words his journey through psychosis and, through the example, the basis of the coaching approach used to work with people in psychosis.
This video link from the Ashland County, Ohio, Mental Health Recovery Board interviews Milt Greek on his understanding and approach to working with people in psychosis and post-psychosis.
Books about Psychosis, Treatment, and Recovery by Milt Greek
"Milt Greek is not dogmatic about treatment approaches and urges people to try anything that works. It's great to read a book by someone who appreciates the unique needs of each individual suffering from this complex illness. He supports any type of treatment that actually helps and offers many ideas to family members of people with the illness."
"If you are looking for an honest book by a schizophrenic explaining what it is like to have such an illness and how best to help therapeutically and personally someone who has the illness, this book will definitely be very helpful to you."
"Fantastic explanations, useful practical help and advice. Positive guidelines for healing and hope for a life beyond psychosis. Must read."
"As a therapist, I found this book extremely helpful. I have gained new insight into my patients. I have given copies of Mr. Greeks letter in the book to several of my patients who found it very comforting."
"This is one of the best books ever written on schizophrenia in ways of recovering from delusions. As a person who has suffered from schizophrenia most of his life, I can say that this book helped me more than any other book about schizophrenia. Delusions are treated as metaphorical realities about something that has happened to a schizophrenic person in one's life, not as literal truths. Highly recommended. Skip all other books about schizophrenia and buy this one."
